The Arab Open University is a non-conventional academic institution that contributes to the development of scientific, social, and cultural aspects of the society with a strategic partnership with the Open University in the United Kingdom.

The establishment of the university was by Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Arab Gulf Development Program (AGFUND).
